Living it up in the West Coast
Explore the Area
Grootvlei Guest Farm is situated 6km from the charming fishing village of Lambert's Bay with its moderate all year climate.
Explore the area and see what the West Coast has to offer to make your visit a memorable one.
Depending on the rainfall and Mother Nature, the area is covered in colourful displays of wild flowers from August to early October. From here inland areas such as Clanwilliam, Vanrhynsdorp and Namaqualand can be visited, all within a few hours' drive from Lambert's Bay.
Experience the cultural history of the area at the Sandveld Museum in Lambert’s Bay and on nearby local farms such as Wadrift.
Do a game drive and visit rock art sites at Donkieskraal potato and game farm (approx. 45km)
Take a boat trip for a close-up view of whales and Heaviside's dolphins.
Go fishing and crayfishing (Lambert's Bay is known as the crayfish mecca of South Africa; the annual Crayfish Festival takes place in April)
Visit Bird Island, an internationally famous breeding site for the Cape gannet colony. This is the only breeding site of its kind (of only 6 sites worldwide) that is easily accessible to the public. The hides are so positioned that visitors can literally come eye to eye with these blue-eyed birds. Other bird species such as White breasted cormorants, Common terns, Cape cormorants, Hartlaub's gulls and Kelp gulls, as well as Cape fur seals can be seen.
Visit the art gallery on Steenbokfontein historical farm right next to Grootvlei Guest Farm.
Enjoy a meal at one of the open-air restaurants in the area, such as the unique and famous Muisbosskerm (right next to Grootvlei farm) and Bosduifklip (to meet and "lang-arm" dance with the locals), as well as at other restaurants in Lamberts' Bay.
Visit the Elandsberg Rooibos Tea Plantation (approx. 45km)
